For this chemistry project, we worked with the whole tenth grade and combined chemistry, art and humanities. The humanities class researched mental health and wrote a case study, the art class created art therapy, and in chemistry we researched the chemistry behind drugs. Some examples of drugs and disorders we researched are anxiety disorders, mood disorders, LSD, and birth control. Our main take away was to learn the true chemistry and effects illicit and prescription drugs have on our bodies, because drugs are important for our age group to know about. We worked in a group of three and my group researched Shrooms for our drug. Individually, I researched depression and got to learn about this disorder many teenagers have. Throughout the weeks, I learned about responsibility, time management and working in groups. A moment where I felt responsible was when we had already made a sign for our drug about a week and a half before exhibition. This also has a lot to do with time management because we had to plan how many days it would take for us to complete our game. Working in this specific group taught me that you have to communicate well especially when your ending project is going to be an exhibition, exhibited to a different school. I contributed to this project by painting the boards the boys laser cut and by gathering all of the information for the game. I spent time outside of class researching, with the help from my other partner, Ben G. At the end of the project, I felt informed about our drug and it's effects on the body. I am most proud of our game because it actually taught people the important facts about shrooms. On our first exhibition on Monday, people got the impression that shrooms aren't bad for the body. So, the next day we improved by telling them about the bad side of shrooms and what can happen when you are take shrooms. I was surprised at how many people already had previous knowledge about shrooms at the exhibition. To improve this project, I would have fixed the Velcro on the game, used brighter colors to catch the audience's attention, and fixed the facts on the game because one of the cards was repeated. Overall, I feel like I grew from the beginning of this project to the end in researching skills and presentation skills.
